VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE
"0" Battery of Artilleiy.— By permission of the Defence Department, two gun detachments, numbering 20 gunners and 5 sergeants of the "O" Battery, have taken up their quarters at Fort Cautley for about ten days. The object of tho barracking of the men is to enable them to gain a practical knowledge of gun drill, and the general routine of banack life, and also to promote the general efficiency of this fine company. Captain Georgo is in command of thedetaohment, and Lieutenants Wasteneys and Gilmore are also in barracks. The officers have arranged an instructive programme for the employment of the men when they are in barracks, so that the time may pass pleasantly. Lieutenant Falconer, of the Permanent Force, has consented to give lectures to the men in the evenings, and it has also been arranged that a squad shall receive instruction in signalling, as we are given to understand that a signalling corps will accompany the Auckland Volunteers to the Easter encampment at Taranaki.
