THE COLONIAL CONFERENCE.
[rkutbr's telegrams.] Melbourne, January 12. Ix is announced that Mr. Gillies, the Premier, has deemed it inexpedient to leave the colony to attend the Confer* ence in London, and Mr. Deakin, the Chief Secretary, will be specially charged to urge that the Prince of Wales shall accept the invitation to open the Centennial Exhibition. Mr. Thomaa, Secretary to the Premier's Department, will probably accompany the Victorian delegate. Later. The Victorian representatives to the colonial conference in London—Messrs. Deakin and Lorimer—will sail on the 10th of February. Mr. Thomas, Secretary to the Premier, will not accompany them, as was at first arranged. London, January 11. Sir H. Holland, as Secretary of State for the Colonies, will continue to work with his predecessor, Mr. Stanhope, in connection with the colonial conference.
