Sir,—l am glad the publio have at last become alive to the unsatisfactory way the totallsator is and has been worked on the Auckland raceoourse. It has long puzzled me that the voice of the public was not also heard against the uncivil way in which ticket-holders are treated by some of the officials when they present their tickets for payment at the totalisator. 1 attended the last races, and on Boxing * Day witnessed the way the machine was worked during the Selling Race. I saw tickets issued to investors when the horses were on the straight, and the machine was not closed till the horses wero passing the outside stand. I am , astonished at things being managed in such a manner by a club that has by its recent action constituted itself totalisator conductors or managers by passing rules for the working of the machine at country meetings. 1 am in the habit of attending country meetings, and have noticed the fact that striot attention is paid by stewards to the proper working of the machine, and it would be good if the Auckland Racing Club would take a lesson from some of the suburban clubs in that respeot, and work the totalisetor in such a manner that it would be a credit to all concerned. 1 think if the Auokland Racing Club did not participate in the percentage things would work more satis* faotorily to the public,—l am, &0., Non Investor,
