A SHOCKING CASE.
<> Some shocking facts were brought to light daring ail enquiry by Dr. Youl, the Melbourne coroner, into the circumstances attending the death of a male infant, parents «t present unknown. The enquiry was held at the girls' dep6t, Royal Park 7 where the infant died, on the evening of the 14th ultimo. H. Banks, a boy living near Studley Park, said that early on the morning of the 14th ultimo, he and another boy saw the child lying between two stones on the river bank, and that it was covered with anti. They went to tell the police, but before the police cane the child had. been removed by a gentleman. This gentleman was Mr. Stubley, an inspector of distilleries, whose residence is on the. bank, .of the Yarra, and ha .also was called as a witness. He -said 5 that about six o'clock on the morning of the 14th ult. he became aware of what the boys had found, and that on going to the place he found the child alive, and its arms and head covered with ants. He took it to his wife, who fed and nursed it until it was removed to the Boyal Park. It was only a few weeks old. Constable Lynoh said the child only bad a long gown on, and ■that its limbs were stiff from the cola. Dr. Shields said the child was dying when admitted into the depot at the Royal Park, and that it had not been well nourished. The exposure had caused its death. Too jury found accordingly, and also found that the child had been wilfully murdered by some person or persons unknown. The police Lave failed to find any trace of the person who so cruelly abandoned the helpless infant to its fate. This is the most horrible case of child abandonment amongst the many recently reported. The infant died on the evening of the day it was admitted into the depot,- ____________
