HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The moating of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon, in the office of the Board, Victoria Aroade. Present: Mr. W. R. Waddel (in the ohair), Messrs. Mays, Mackechnie, Goldie, Niocol, Udy, Lamb, and Kidd, The minutes of last meeting were read and SvrfiiDivs to Benevolent Societies.— A letter was received from the Premier's offioe, Wellington, replying to a letter of the Board on the 11th ultimo, stating that, as the subscriptions to the Temporary Aid Society, and the Onehunga Ladies' Society, were reoeived by these societies, which were really sub-committees of the United Board, before the Ist of October, subsidy at the rate of £1 to £1 only was due npon them. As regarded the contributions to the Benevolent Sooiety, £1 for £1 was payable on the £301 9s 7d received before the Ist of October, and 24s for £1 on those reoeived after that date ; in all, £473 6s Id. That sum, and the £161 18« 7d, due as above, would be credited to the Board in reduction of the advanoe of £768 13s 4d, made by the Government early last month. -< Mr. Waddel said it had been thought the Government would have provided for this subsidy, but, instead of that, it had been deducted from the money advanced to the Board.—Letter received. University College.—A letter was read from the Registrar of the University College, forwarding oopy of resolution passed by that Board on the 15th instant respecting the appointment of a committee by the Council to meet a committee of the Board in reference to the ereotion of a dissecting-room in the vicinity of the Hospital Mr. Maokechnie thought that the Council should give farther particulars of what they required, and he moved that a reply be sent accordingly. Mr. Niocol thought it would be best to appoint a committee. Reply to be sent, asking tor particulars of the kind of building wished for, the probable cost, and proposed conditions of oentrol and management. Compulsory Admission to thk Hospital. —A letter was received from the North Canterbury Hospital Board asking the Board to co-operate with them in resisting compulsory admission of delirium tremens' cases to the Hospital. Referred to a committee, consisting of the Chairman, Mr. Maokechnie, and Mr. Mays, to frame a reply, an opinion being expressed that they could not refuse admission of such cases to the Hospital. Visiting Hospital Patients,—A letter wis read from F. Jeune asking for permission to visit Hospital patients whenever called upon or whenever he had time. Reply to be sent drawing the applicant's attention to the rules of the hospital. Relief. — A letter was received from James Crombie complaining of relief having been stopped to the family of the late Jeremiah Ward, consisting of widow and a family of nine. She had been left with a small house encumbered with a mortgage to a building society, and the weekly payments were very hard to her. It was hard on those who had been in Auckland over 20 years, and had helped to make the place, to be refused assistance. Referred to Mr. Graham for Inquiry. - Payments to Hospital—Letters were received from the Taranaki Charitable Aid Board and Bay of Plenty Board, enclosing payments for the maintenance of patients in the Hospital. A letter was received from the Nelson Charitable Aid Board, stating that a man named Winfield Biggins, who had resided for some years in Auckland, had been admitted to the Home for Destitute Poor there, and asking for a refund of the cost of his maintenance. The letters were referred to a special committee to report. House —Applications for the office of House Physician were received, with list of qualifications and testimonials, from Jamas Murdoch, Melbourne ; T. B. Clime, Sydney; John Kerr, New South Wales; T. E. Franklin, Sydney; C. D'Englesquesville, Sydney; J. Sutherland, Melbourne, The applications were referred to the House Committee. House Surgeon.—The following applications were reoeived for the office of House Surgeon, list of qualifications and testimonials being forwarded in each case J. Cookett Hood, Melbourne ; W. N. Neville, Melbourne ; H. W. Steele, Verity; George Fox, Melbourne J. H. R. Bond (on conditio* of present salary not being reduced). The Chairman remarked that the laßt application was not in accordance with the conditions of their advertisement, and could not therefore be considered. The application to be referred to the House Committee, Dr. Bond to be requested to continue to act in his present position until asuccesssr was appointed. Visiting Applications for the position on the visiting staff were deferred, until the applicants could see the completed rules and regulations under which they would have to act. Time of Meeting.Mr. Lamb moved, " That the time of meeting of the Board be two o'clook instead of four in the afternoon." He represented the inconvenience the time caused to country members. Mr. Udy seconded the motion. Mr. Mackeohnie opposed the motion, the consideration of which was deferred until next meeting in expectation of a fuller attendance of members. Accounts were passed, and the Board then adjourned, '
