COLONIAL JOURNALISTS AND KNIGHTHOOD.

[by TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. The Evening Prass this evening says "It has come to our knowledge that Sir J. Vogel has represented, or caused it to be represented to the Imperial Government, that it would be highly acceptable to colonials if, on the auspicious occasion of the jubilee year of Her Majesty's reign, the dignity of knighthood were conferred on a distinguished journalist in each colony." Before leaving for Auckland this evening, Sir J. Vogel absolutely denied any connection with the suggested knighthood of journalists, as mentioned in the Evening Press. He states that neither directly or indirectly has he written or spoken about the matter, and declares he never even heard it mentioned or discussed. He considers the whole affair a pure fabrication.
