LUCAS CREEK.

The monthly meeting of the Lucas , Creek Branoh of the Blue Ribbon Army, was held in the Lucas , Creek Sohoolhouse on the evening of November 9. There was a very fair attendance of members and others, about seventy persons being present. A lengthy programme was suooessfully gone through, in which Mr. Dunn, the Muses Wilson, Miis MoArthur, Miss Dunn, Messrs. Lloyd and Dunn, Mr. Oowley, Mr. Green; Muter Monatedt, Mi« Monetedt, and Mr. Monstedt took part. Several new members were enrolled, and the meeting olosed by singing the tloxology. A new settler has lately come to this distriot, in the person of Captain Holden, a gentleman just arrived from England. He has purchased of Mr. Stevenson eight aores of land with a good frontage to the oreek. Mr. Holden is having a steamer of very light draught built, expressly for the oreek. It will be able to come up to Luoas , Creek Wharf at half tidts. This new vessel is to carry about 15 tons cargo, and will be fitted up with new and powerful engines. Mr. Holden expeots to oommenoe running his steamer before Christmas. I understand the steamer will take about an hour and a-half to steam from Luoas , Creek Wharf to Queen* street Wharf, Auckland. The opening of steam communication should induce a large number of .pleasure parties and others to visit our oozy dietriot. It should also further the permanent settlement of the distriot by inducing persons of means to make a home here, as also from the fact that it is only eight miles to Birkenhead (Northoote), by a fair road. A singing class has been started here. It meets every Tuesday. Mr. Ferguson has lately returned to this distriot, having purchased the place known as " Samuel's" upon wbioh he has ereoted a nice house. —[Own Correspondent.]
