ATTEMPTED SUICIDE AT THE THAMES.
[bt tkleoraph.—own correspondent.] Thames, Thursday. A dairyman named Amos Fisher, aged about fifty, residing at Tararu, at five o'clock this afternoon told his daughter-in-law that he intended to poison himself. Having carbolic aoid for the treatment of cattle, he poured some into a cup, and ' drank it before she could prevent him. She called in a neighbour, and Mr. Brown, veterinary surgeon, who administered castor oil, the white of eggs, and coffee, to neutralise the poison. Fisher had, however, previously become unconscious. Dr. Davy was also sent for. Finally he was removed to the hospital by the constabulary, and other medicines being administered, he recovered consciousness. Fieher told Constable 0 Brien that he had taken about an ounce of acid beoauße he did not feel well in his bowels. He io of rather intemperate habits, and was under the influence of drink when he drank the poiaon.
