TAURANGA
PARNELL AND NEWMARKET.
The nominations of Mayors for the boroughs of Parnell and Newmarket took place yesterday For Parnell, the only candidate was Mr. J. Winks, the present Mayor, who was nominated by Messrs. A. Kidd and D. H. McKenzie, and declared duly elected. Mr. W. J. Suiter, the present Mayor of Newmarket, was nominated by Messrs. Tait and Rose, and returned unopposed. ONEHUNGA. The nominations of candidates for the office of Mayor for the ensuing year were received by W. H. Stebbing, Returning Officer, at the Courthouse yesterday at twelve o'clock, as follows :—William George Scott, proposed by W. Brierly, seconded by A. Robb ; William Finlay Wilson, proposed by J. Howe, seconded by J. Sullivan. The nomination of Mr. Wilson caused some surprise and comment, as it was not thought probable, he having been in the district a very short space of time, and only returned to the Council about three months ago. A third candidate, Mr. S. Bright, was in attendance, bat refused to allow himself to be nominated in opposition to the present Mayor, Dr. W. G. Scott. An election will take place on Wednesday, the 29 th inst.
The only nomination received for the office of Mayor for the ensuing year was that of the Rev. Charles Jordan, 8.A., the present incumbent of Holy Trinity Church, and who was declared duly eleoted. The Rev. Mr. Jordan lately successfully contested for a seat in the Borough Council, and has given such satisfaction that other intending competitors thought it hopeless to try and run against him. TIMARU. Mr. John Jackson and Mr. Mod Jonas were yesterday nominated as candidates for the office of Mayor of Timarn. WELLINGTON. At present Mr. S. Broun is the only candidate for the Mayoralty. Nominations close to-morrow.
