THE GOVERNORSHIPS NEW YORK. London, November 4. Mr. Hewitt has been elected Governor of the State of New York. Mr. Henry George, who contested the office with him, obtained 67,000 votes. Hazell and Hodgkin, members of the committee of the Emigration Office, which has been established under the supervision of Her Majesty's Government, will sail- for Australia and New Zealand on the 6th instant. The object of their visit is to make inquiries into the emigration question, the establishment of offices, and the appointing of correspondents. THE CHARTERED BANK OP AUSTRALIA. London, November 3. The directors of the London Chartered Bank of Australia have declared a dividend at the rate of 6 per cent, per annum, and have carried forward and placed to the reserve fund £29,000. LONDON COMMERCIAL NEWS. London, November 3. Consols are 101. The market rate of discount is 3 J per cent. New Zealand 5 per cent. 10-40 loan is quoted at 101| ; the 4| per cent. 5-30 loan, at 99£; and the 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 97. Colonial breadstuff's remain unchanged. The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the proportion of reserve to liabilities to be 39 per cent., or 2 per cent, less than last week. The total reserve in notes and bullion amounts to £10,500,000. [PBESS association:.] London, November 4. The wool market is stagnant, and' prices are weaker. A slight reaction is considered possible. The frozen meat ex s.s. Iberia, from Melbourne, is realising 4d per lb. THE COPTIC. London, November 5. The Shaw, SavilJ, and Albion Company's Coptic, which left New Zealand on September 18, arrived at Plymouth yesterday evening, her cargo of frozen muttcn being in good condition.
