[OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] "* Thambs, Friday. The township is aglow with bonfires and crackers. A boy named Win. McAllister was brought before the Court to-day charged ' with stealing weight* from shops and selling them to a second-hand dealer named Robert Turner. A schoolmaster gave the boy a good character, and the Beach dismissed the case on the father promising to flog him. The' Magistrate rated Turner, stating that he was offering the youngsters a premium to steal. It is stated that Mr! Gordon ' thinks bo highly of Waiomo that he has recommended a road to be made to the mines, estimated to cost £750. It is also stated he recommends as a work of urgency £300 ' towards making a road to the Auckland claim, Karaka Creek. ' ' -■» The Finance Committee of the Borough recommend that a special loan of £3000 be 7 obtained from the Government under' the 3 Municipal Corporation Act, 1886. which comes into force on Ist January, 1887, for ' the purpose of paying off the overdraft on ' the Borough Fund Account. * It was shown 8 that were such a loan obtainable at 6 per l cent, interest for say 30 years, the annual payment for interest and sinkidg fund would be only £224 as against what the Borough now has to pay annually, viz., £1200 for 9 reduction of overdraft and interest, i [press association.] [> Wellington, Friday. The Government have accepted a tender from aChristchurch contractor for the erection of a new Government Printing Office. The price will not be mentioned until the tender is signed. The report of the Stark, Purchase Committee was to-day sent to His Excellency the Governor, but it is understood that its j nature will not be mada known for soma , days. .. • . 1 Mr. Justice Richmond has returned to Wellington from Blenheim. The Minister of Justice has returned from the South. ■ '■-< Mr. G. S. Cooper, Under-Secretary, and A. W. Brown, Mayor of Wellington, have returned from Australia, the former from the Sheep and Cattle Conference, Sydney, and the latter from the Mayor of Sydney's jubilee festivities. The wreck of the Tui was to-day bought . in on behalf of the owners for £260. A' local Licensing Committee, who have , for the last twelve months refused to grant i temporary licenses for the sale of spirituous liquors to the Hutt Park raoeoourse, ' have now granted'the license for November 9. A child named Nellie Patterson, who was run over by a horseman named William Pilking ton at Carterton on Wednesday, died to-day from fracture of the skull. Pilkington , has been arrested. . George Raddon and Henry Watson were ' to-day committed for trial for burglary- at [ Thine Bros, establishment a fortnight ago. [ The new Opera House is to be opened on the 17th instant with "Silver King." Christchcbch, Friday. „ At a well attended meeting to-night, it was resolved to form a Kennel Club. Kumara, Friday » . Colonel Whitmore inspected the Kumara Volunteers last night, and proceeded ,by coach this morning to Christohuroh via 5 Dunedtn, accompanied by Major Barley. Dunedin, Friday. 1 There is every prospect of the Kaitangata strike being settled • Mr- Paulin, C.E., left: Dunedin to-day, and leaves the Bluff to-morrow in the schooner Rosa on a prospeotiong tour of the districts in the neighbourhood of Big Bay.
