At this early period of the Borough's histoiy, I opine It would be advisable that the Mayor's private interests should not, if avoidable, be connne<t to one loo*lity, but rather that they should be scattered over the Borough, so as to prevent even the suspicion of favouritism to any particular place. My interests in the Horouvb are so eiten <ed that only it» progress as a whole will be most to my advantage. I am al*o of opinion that there should not be a monopoly of th« Mayoralty by any single man, unless under extraordinary ciroum* stances, such as the unsnitability or unwillingness of any other burgess to all the position. 1 have rerved the Borough as councillor since its formation.
