On Wednesday evening the residents at the Palace Hotel, Rotorua, assembled and presented Mr. Joseph Mcßae with the gold cross given by the Christchuroh Caledonian Society, for his bravery during the great excitement consequent on the volcanic eruption at Tarawera in June last. The cross was formally presented by Mr. J, H. Taylor. The cross is a very handsome one, being of massive gold, about two and a half inches long, in the ehape of the letter X, surrounded by a wreath. On the face are engraved the words, "Joseph Moßae, for valour. Canterbury Caledonian Society." The Victoria Rifles are requested to attend at the company , *, room to-night at half-past seven to be measured for patrol jacket*.
