AUCKLAND BURN S CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the Auck-' land Barns' Club was held in Robson'a Booms laat night. There was a good attendance of members, including a number of ladies. Mr. D. B. McDonald (one of the vice-preeidente) occupied the chair. The annual report was read. It stated that sinoe the election of officebearers in November last a very considerable advance had been made in building up the society, about 60 members having been added to the roll, and with a canvas hundreds would no doubt enrol themselves. The committee had successfully carried out the annual gathering on the poet's birthday, and also held a concert and a lecture and concert. On November 30 (St. Andrew's Day) the fourth entertainment will take place. The report went on to say that the society was free from debt. In April papers were posted to the parent club in Kilmaniock to be admitted into the federation of Burns' Clubs all over the world, resulting in the president of the society being appointed one of the committee of that in* stitution. The society's diploma was expected shortly, and every member could obtain a private copy at a cost of 2s. The committee had also sent to Glasgow for a small consignment of suitable music. It waa hoped that with the musio and the exertions of Mr. Lankhara (the conductor), and members of the choir, who so kindly assist, that something good would result in the future. No doubt Sooti&'s sons and daughters, as well as others, would be gratified in listening to the peculiar and high-class songs and music of Sootland. The committee entertained the hope that the society would attain to a position worthy of the children of the proud land they claim as their own, and of the poet whose name they honour. Without being invidious the com" mittee respectfully acknowledge the interest taken in the business and the attendance given at the meetings by the vice-president, Mr. D. B. McDonald. The report would not be complete if it did not warmly eulogise the independent, able, and kind services of their piper, Mr. Simon Fraser. The balanoe-sheeb waa also read, and showed that the finances were in a satisfactory con* dition, and that the society was free of debt. The election of office-bearers waa proceeded with, and resulted as follows President, Mr. Justice Gillies; vice-president, His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. R. Waddel), Messrs. W. Anderson, and D. B. Mc< Donald; committee: Messrs. J. Parker, J. Stewart, A. D. Brown, J, Carlow. J. D. Harper, J. Hogg, K. Robert' son, George Carter, C. H. Murray, Geo. Lankham. Hon. treasurer, Mr. G. Carter; hon. secretary, Mr. R. Pease. A letter was ' read from the Burns Olub, Kilmarnook, stating that the Auckland Club bad been affiliated with the parent society in Kilmarnock. The rest of the evening was spent in songs and recitations given by the members of the olub, when well known Scotch songs and recitations were rendered with good effect. The Chairman announced that a concert would be held on St. Andrew's Day, when Scottish songs would form the programme, and the meeting closed with the singing of " Anld Lang Syne" and a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
