This morning the course at Riocarton was again the scene of active work by nearly all the horses engaged in the Metropolitan Meeting. Nelson and Waitiri did a good gallop for two miles and a-half. Nelson moved very strongly and walked away none the worse ; but the mare held her own all the way and appeared to best advantage at the finish. Fog and Longwaist cantered and subsequently went once round at a %ood pace. Derringer did a useful gallop at half pace and finished fast. Disowned and Torrent went twice round the course proper, completing the last eirouit in 2mins 44secs. The Cup favourite ran in capital form. Forester, after doing slow work, went round at a better pace, in good style. Talebearer and Titbit did a smart two and a-half miles on the tan, commencing rather stiffly, but warming to their work. Locheil went round the course proper alone, and was then joined by Marion and taken along at three-quarter speed for a mile and a-half. The Cup horse moved fairly well. St. Ivea and St. Swithin covered a mile and a-half at a useful pace. Alpine Rose and Itepo did a mile and a-half at three-quarter pace, and the Cup horse was immediately ' afterwards sent a fast mile in company with Charity. Rocket and Fusilade, after cantering, did three quarters of a mile fast, there being little difference between the pair at the finish. Patrician finished a couple of rounds on the course proper fast. Trickster and Reputation covered two miles and a-half in creditable style, but the former walked away lame. Ruby went steady for two miles.
