A CCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon at the Museum Buildings, Princes-street. Present : The President (Mr. R. C. Barstow), Captain Whitney, Mr. T. B. Hill, and Mr. A. Bull.

Financial Statement. The financial statement for the past two months was read: — Receipts : Balance in bank, £193 5i 4d; license fees from Paymaster-General, £110>: total, £194 Ida 4d. Expenditure: Fees returned to Tauranga Society, £24 10s; wages at gardens, £16 16a ; food, £1 6s 2d; Herald, advertising, etc., £6 4s 6d ; legal expenses, £11 2s; gratuity to Constable Reilly, £2 ; secretary, £16 19s 3d ; rent of office, £5 ; sundries, £4 15s 61 ; balance in Bank of New Zealand, £106 Is lid: total, £194 15s 4d. At fixed deposit, £100.

Distribution op Tbodt.— following was the distribution of trout ova received from OUgo :— 1000, Hamilton Domain Board ; 1000, Thames; 1000, Whangarei Town Board ; 1000. Whangarei ; 1000, \Phakatane; 1000, Hamilton ; 500, Waipu ; 3500 retained at Domain hatchery. Domain Watekmains. — reply to the society the Town Clerk wrote stating that they would not lay any claim to the maim laid down to bring the water into the fish* ponds.

Trespassing after Game.—Superintend dent Thomson forwarded a report from Sergeant Greene, at Onehunga, as to four convictions obtained for trespassing on Week's Island in pursuit of game. The defendants had been brought before the Onehunga Court, and fined 5$ and costs each. Application was made for the mml reward of £2 for each conviction. Captain Whitney remarked that in this case it woold cost the society £8 to get a fine amounting to £1. He thought the letter should be referred to the Government showing the administration of justice and the cost too society were put to. The Chairman said poaching would be rampant if they did not offer some reward for the constables to do their duty. They would not make them« selves unpopular with their neighbour! if * reward was not offered. Discussion then ensued upon the advisability of paying rewards for convictions for trespassing. On the motion of Mr. Bull, it was resolved to instruct the secretary to reply, "That the conviotions hardly came under the resolutions of the Counoil offering a reward, but u the conduct of the constables was to be commended, the society granted £4 to the constables." Some discussion then ensued as to whether there should not be some amendment made of the Act in regard to the shooting of curlew. It was agreed to make application to the Governor to hare the restriction of shooting curlew as game removed, as it was unnecessary to have a olose season for the bird. Inspection of Trout.— Whitney referred to the necessity of some inspection being made of the streams as to the advisability of fishing for trout in the Hendersons creek and other streams. He moved, "That two members of the society be instructed to fish for trout, and report to the Council. Carried. Rooks.—Mr. T. C. Williamson wrote, making application to take some rooks, and transfer them to the Rukuhia station, Wai« kato, where, he thought, they would thrive. It was agreed to procure a half a dozen ioom for the applicant. - Accounts were passed for payment, ana the meeting terminated. '■- _ __
