GREAT BARRIER MURDER.

It was Mr. Brassey's intention to have gone down to the Great Barrier on Monday last, but owing to the serious illness of Mrs. Braasey he was forced to forego his trip. In the published statements of the girl Graham in the Australian papers she referred to a convivial party on board the cutter Sovereign of the Seas at the Queen-street Wharf on the night previous to the vessel Bailing for the Barrier. We understand that the detectives a-e looking up the parties who took part in that social reunion, as their evidence will doubtless throw considerable light on the subsequent proceedings oi the three voyageurs. Mrs. Penn, mother of the prisoner Penn, had an interview with her son yesterday in the gaol, in the presence of officials. The conversation had reference solely to family matters, and the Great Barrier business was not even alluded to. Young Penn comported himself throughout the interview with the same self-possession and insouciance which has characterised his bearing throughout. Ihe mother's feeLngs at meeting her son under such circumstances may be more easily imagined than described. Caffrey and Penn are regularly given necessary exercise, although kept isolated irom other prisoners, and the special guard detailed to watch over them effectually Prevent any communication being held with them, other than that authorised.
