WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.
Cambridge, Friday evening. An important meeting of ratepayers was held in the Pukekura Sohoolhouso, Pakorimu, this afternoon. A number of influential settlers were present, and it was resolved to strike a rate for next year to secure the Government subsidy although the Board are in funds. It was also decided to attempt to acquire independence, as far as possible, from Waipa County. Mr, Lake, and others addressed the meeting. Hamilton, Friday evening. Notioea in bankruptcy in the estate of James Orr, B. Montagu, and Cornelius Day will be found in the advertising columns. A watch was kept last night for the Waikato taniwha at Quadtrangled White's slaughter yards by a number of armed men, but nothing was seen or heard of the creature. A change is to be made in the taotics employed for its capture, and a trap set instead of people keeping watch at night.

C. W, Langstone, veterinary surgeon, was brought up before two Justices of the Peace to«day, charged with forgery, and remanded to Auckland, He will be sent down by tomorrow's train.
