TO THE EDITOR, Sir,—As Mr. T. L. White has lately made two attacks regarding my appointment in the Legislative Council, I shall feel obliged if you will insert the enclosed letter from the Hon. Dr. Pollen, as he was the gentleman deputed to ask me, and a member of the Ministry at the time, in 1869.—1 am, &c., Henry Chambkrlin. Auckland, October 20, 1886. Auckland, October 20, 1886, Dear Mr. Ohamberlin, —I have heard on more than one occasion a statement made, based upon rumour only, that you were called to the Legislative Council by mistake), and that it was your brother Charles (or whom that honour was intended.
