New Zealand Herald Office. Saturday afternoon. The Customs receipts amounted to £1216 a 4d. Arthur's Weexly Report.—A (air amount of business has been done in all departmeuts; auctions have been will attended, and spirited campetition. Furniture has been in Rood demand. Potatoes are only saleable in small lots ; all the merchants are overstocked, and are working oft' at low price, those on band could not be cleared out yestorday in small lots with the sacks at £3, therefore were held (good Southern-grown ones.) Some Auckland grown had to be sold at £210 i. liutter, only secondclass, and inferior on hand, stood much lighter, but ditUcult to sell at any price. Cheese : No flrst-clnas to hand : there is no demand. Second-class will only sell at low prices, and in limited quantities. Bacon must be lirat-class to command a price. The demand for second-class is limited at low prices, Fruit; That from Hobart of inferior quality, therefore prices ruled low. Some Auckland-grown apples sold at 4Jd to 4Jd lb. Lemons are still selling at low prices, owing to so many of Sydney ones being sent here. These sold yesterday at Is to 2s per case. They are very inferior, and soon rot in this climnte, but they keep the price of ?ood ones low. The Sydney oranges were also \ery inferior, and in bad condition. It will be well for our fruit growers to pay particular attention to orange growing, and apples that will keep. Were they to do so, we should soon be able to supply our own demand. Poultry were entered in large number, and all sold at good prices, Pigs sold fairly well. Monday Pawnbroker's sale at mart, unredeemed pledges from Mr. J. Rae. pawnbroker. A very large attendance, good competition, and satisfactory prices were obtained. The sale of jewellery at the premises lately occupied by S. Coombes and Co. was continued on Monday and Wednesday, with fair result. Tuesday: Sale of household furniture, piano, sc., at Mr. Banner's, Seafield View .Road. A large number were 'present, bidding was good, prices inoU satisfactory. The sale of glassware, ironmongery, Ao., at mart was well attended; prices were low, yet as good as could be expected, considering the class of goods, and the state of the market. Wednesday : Solo of household furniture. Ac , at mart. Large attendance, good business done; there was a good demand. Friday: Market day, sale of poultry, produce, at Mart. There was a good supply, large attendance, fair competition, large business done. Prices realised at follows : Fowls Is 8d to 2« 6d each, ducks 2s 111 to 2s lOd, langshangs 2s 3d to 2s (id, pigeon a Is 6d, turkeys 3) 3d to 4s, geese 3s S<J. Spanish fowls 2* lid to 3s 2d, small pigs 6* tid to 17s 6d, dead pi; SJd p»r lb, hen and chicss 6s 6d to 9s 9(1, dead rabbits 9 1 each, cabbage lid to 3s sack, pumpkins 4s 3d to 6s 3d, turnips 2s Id to 2s 7d sack, mangolds 9d potatoes 2* 3d to 4s 6d, onions id to 2d per lb, cheese 4id, bacon Ijd to aid, bams 5d to 7Jd, salt butter 3d to sd, marmalade 6s 6d dozen, apples 4s 9d to 9s 6d, TO 4s 61 to 6* 3d, ST IP 6s 3d, STR ss. SPM 5s to os. lemons 2s Id case, oranges 23 7d to 3s case, candles 4jd lb, oats 2s 41 bushel, barley 2s 2d do., tea 10s (id box and Is 4Jd lb, biscuits 3jd to 4jd, cracknells sd, lollies 4jd, coffee It tid, sugar 3d. Mr. Edward Leydon reports Tuesday's sale of furniture and effects was well attended. Prices altered very little from last week. Wednesday : Sale of drapery and clothing. A large quantity was sold at fair prices. Friday's sale of produce, Ac., was well attended and bidding brisk. Potatoes fetched £4 to £5 per ton, onions id to Id per lb, bacon 3d to 6d, hams 6d 'to 7d, cheese 3d to 4}d, butter 6d to Bd. fowls Is 4d to Is 3d each. Furniture as under : Suites £2 10s to £144, couches £1 16s to £2 10s, nhests of drawers (rimu) £2 to £4 101, round tables' 15s to 255, meat safes 10s to 25i, chairs from 3s tid to 7s,
