WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meet in a of the Waitemata County Council was held yesterday at their office, Palmerston Buildings. Present : Messrs. O. Mays (chairman), Alison, Monk, Smyth, McLeod, Lloyd, Sinclair, and Cantwell. Northcote.—A letter was read from the Harbour Board approving of the proposed approach to Northcote Wharf, and stating thet £602 12s 6d, as requested by the Council, would be contributed by the Harbour Board. A letter was read from the olerk to the Northcote Road Board respecting contributions toward the work. The matter was deferred in order that a statement of income derivable from the district be made out and submitted. A letter was read from Thomas Seaman, clerk to the Northcote Road Board, forwarding a copy of resolution passed by that Board, "That application be made to the Waitemata County Council to grade, form, and metal the main road from Northcote Wharf to the Lake buildings." It was resolved that the Board be informed that no further moneys are available for expenditure in the Northoote district during the current financial year. Birkenhead. —A letter was read from T. Seaman in reference to reclamation at Birkenhead in connection with the road contract, and asking for contributions from the Board. It wan resolved that in the opinion of the Council s.ll moneys available for the Birkenhead diatiriob should be expended in completing the formation and metalling of the main road to Lucas' Creek. Waiwbba. — A letter was read from Joseph Meade complaining that the road from Upper Waiwera to Hot Springs had been improperly taken through his property in Harrietville township. A letter from Mr. Beetham, county engineer, stated that he had never heard of Harrietville township or of Mr. Joseph Meade's land. : The road bad given sat; faction to everyone, and would be no injury, but a great benefit, to the property. ft was resolved that the engineer's aotion be approved, and that after July 1 next the road be left in charge of the Waiwera Road Board. Lucas' Creek-Wade Road.A letter was read from G. Green complaining of the want of repair to the road been Lucas* Creek bridge and Dairy bridge (Dairy Flat.) Repairs ordered, cost not to exceed £5. A letter was read from H. Lloyd, asking why the contractor for metalling Wade and Lucas' Creek Road was allowed to abandon his contract. The engineer reported that the work could not be completed before the winter set in, and he therefore recommended that the contract be determined. The engineer's report was adopted. Main West Coast Road.—A letter was read from Robert Sinclair and Isaao McLeod respecting deviation of main West Coast Road at Mr. Sydney Smith's house. A suggestion made by Mr. Sydney Smith as to the course of the toad was referred to the engineer for estimate. Inland Road, Kaukafakapa.— letter was read from the county engineer respecting repairs to the inland road, and a proposal that the road be struck off the list of county roads and left to the care of the Road Board was deferred to next meeting. Manakau Heads Road.—A letter was read from Charles Murdoch, calling attention to the bad state of WaikomitiManakau Heads Road, and other roads in the district. A letter from the county engineer stated that all the bush roads required attention before the winter set in. He suggested thnt Mr. Murdoch be requested to give fuller particulars. The suggestion of the engineer wan adopted.

Waitakkrei West.—A petition was received from ratepayers in Waitakerei West, asking for the ereotion of a bridge over the Waitakerei river, on the main road leading to the Wast Coast to the native settlement. The chairman said that the petition reminded him of a letter in that morning's Herald, charging the Board with doing just what they had not done. Resolved, " That the engineer be instructed to estimate the cost, and report to next meeting." Brooklyn.—A letter was read from A. J. Mackie asking that the proposed road from the Little Muddy Creek to the Big Muddy Creek be surveyed for the information of settlers, and that the work should be started early in the spring. Resolved, "That the engineer be requested to give an estimate of the cost of surveying and laying out the proposed new lines of road, and report to next meeting." Whanoafaroa Road Board.—A letter was read calling attention to the unsafe state of the slopes, etc., on a road formed by the County Council last year. Request declined, as the road is not under the control of the Council, but is a district road. Diyonport.—A letter from B. Tanner, secretary to the Devon port J Road Board smd local Board of Health, respecting the erection of publio abattoirs within Takapuna riding was deferred pending replies from Lake, Birkenhead, and JNorthcote. and Kumed Roads. — A letter was read from T. W, Deacon, calling attention to necessity for repairs on the Kaipara portage, and Kiverhead and Kamen road*. Replied that there were no funds available. Waindi.—The Chairman of the Road Board stated that accidents had taken place near the quarry. Referred to engineer to have a fence erected. In reference to another complaint, Mr. Lloyd was empowered to employ a man to <lo what wish necessary. Railway Reform. — Reports from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and the Waikato Railway Reform League were referred to Messrs. Monk, McLeod, Mid Sinclair to report upon at an early dato.
