The proposed extension to England is a policy of inflation without advantage. 3. Australian lives are select livos, owing (i.) To the nature of emigration, which is of itself selection. (a.) It is proposed to water our profits by taking business in an old country in which the upper and wealthier classes are subject to the evil effects of luxury, and tb* less fortunate are liable to smallpox, cholera, and consumption-thing* not known or of little importance in our mortality tables. 6. The mortality of our members has always been far below the scientific mortality calculated upon. Will you forfeit this immense advantage ? 6. It has been shown by Air. Black that the rate of the Society's mortality has been only about lnlf that of the twenty leading British offices, and onethird of the Northampton tables. See page 30, "Mortality Tables A.M.P.
