Flour at Derby, the port of the Kimbcrley diggings, was quoted a fortnight ago at per lh. In Queensland twenty-four applications have been received for the post of public executioner. The excitement caused by the discoveries of gold at Kimberly has even penetrated to Marlborough. The Bum of £10,000 has been voted for the erection of a bonded warehouse and for harbor improvements at Derby, Western Australia. Charles Miller, expressman, claims £500 damages from the Dunedin Corporation, for injuries received by the recent fatal blast at that place. The Hugo Minstrels have just completed a sixteen weeks' season at Melbourne, where they did wonderful business. They are now at Ballarat. The Governor of Western Australia intends to submit to the Colonial Legislature the question of the prohibition of the importation of stock from foreign ports. The trades organisations of Victoria desire the Government of that colony to protest against the wholesale introduction of Chinese labour into South Australia. Under the convenient heading of " travelling expenses," no l«hs than £247 was paid last year to members of the Duuediu Education Board. One member drew £81.. Captain Edwin, K.N., advises that there is every indication of strong south to southwest and westerly winds, with a rising glass, and exceptionally colli weather. On the 2lst May no less than 28,6400z of silver, valued at £7160, were eent from the Sunny Corner mine, New South Wales, and there still remained 20,0000z for shipment;. The R.M.s.s. Maripoea left San Francisco on the oth iaat., her time-table date, for Auckland. She may be expected to reach hero on the 25th mat. She brings mail 3 from London to the 20in May. The benefit in the Foresters , Hall, Newton, on Queen's Birthday, after the payment of expenses, resulted in the receipt of the sum of £27 17s'6d. Mr. James desires to convey his sincere thanks to those who so kindly assisted. A charge of assault in which two scriptural characters, named Shadrach and Mesbach, hailing from the Wairau Pa, Marlborough, were concerned, was investigated in the Blenheim Police Court recently.
