INSPECTION PARADE.
A commanding officer's inspection parade of No. 2 Battalion of the Auckland Garrison was held in the Drill-shed on Tuesday night, consisting of the Victoria Rifles. City Guards, Hobson Hifles, and Queens Own £.ifl?s. Major Dignan was in command, and Major Isaacs was also present. Captain Cliiton acted as semur major, junior major, and adjutant of tiie battalions. The musters ■were very poor ones, and were as follows : —
Victoria Katies, 30 rank and tile, 4 eupernumers.ries, under Captain .Skinner and Lieutenants Selfe and Cooper ; City Guards, 42 rank and file, 3 supernumeraries, under Lieutenants Dormer and Shemilt (Rev. W. Tebba, chaplain, was also present); Hobaon Rifles, 25 rank and file, n Bupernutnerants, under Lieutenant Little; Queen's Own, 20 rank and tile, 4 supernumeraries, under Captain Keep and Lieutenant Fialayson. The Garrison Band were auo present, and numbered IS under Bandmaster Morris. The City Guards was divided into two companies during the battalion movements, which were executed with a considerable amount of steadiness, but the inadequate area of the shed as a drill ground interfered with the formations. Victoria Riflhs.—A very handsome and costly has been presented by Mr. J. Condon, of the United Service Hotel, to the company, to be competed for at the rifle range. Or.e of the conditions upon which it will be fired for will be a requisite number of drills will have to be put in. City Ghards.—At a meeting of the City Guards after the inspection, ifc was reaolved to give the patronage of the corps to the concert of national and military muiic to be given on the occasion of the Jubilee of Her Majesty's Accession to the Throne, at the opening of St. Matthew's Winter Entertainment. Colonel Lyon and the officers commanding the Auckland corps have also given their patronage, when it is expected all volunteers will appear in uniform. Battalion , Drill—An inspection parade of the Auckland Engineers and "O" Battery of Artillery was held in the DrillBhed last night, when there were excellent musters of both companies, considering the inclemency of the weather. The battery were under command of Captain George, and Lieutenant Wasteneys was also present, there being a good parade of 40, while the Engineers, who were under Lieutenants Elmes aDd Beveridge, numbered 33. After the usual preliminary formations, SergeantMajor Campbell took over command of the corps and moved them into line, when a Steady course of instruction in battalion movements waa given, special attention being paid to countermarching and wheeling by companies into line. In connection with the " O" Battery, the team chosen to represent the corps in the shooting matoh with "A" Battery was announced. At a meeting of the corps, held after the dismissal of the parade, a shooting club was formed, officers were elected, and rules were submitted, and, after discussion, adopted. It was resolved to have four prize meetings a year, at which competitors will be handicapped. The Drill-shed Approaches.—lt may te mentioned that, in connection with the approaches and grounds of the shed, the City Council will open tenders for the work at to-night's meeting, after which no doubt the numerous complaints ae to the state of the entrance in wet weather will be allayed.
