NEW MUSIC.
We have to acknowledge the receipt of a suite for the pianoforte entitled "The Voices of the Sea," by Mr. Gerard F. Cobb, of London, principally illustrative of quotations from Tennyson's "Sea Dreams." They are in two books, six numbers in all. No. lis a Legcjiero movement, intended to represent the undulations of the restless ocean, and is pleasing but not sufficiently varied. No. 2, an allegretto soherzando, is graceful, if not strikingly original. No. 3is an interesting number, the division at the close of each section of the three-four tempo," into two beats, having a quaint rhythmical effect. No. 3s is characterised by considerable vigour and brilliance. No. 4, is a pretty minuet with a conventional trio. No 5 is the least interesting number of the series, while No. 6is a brilliant mazurka movement in the style of the Polnisohes Danses of Scharwscka. • Collectively, the suite of pieoesmay be regarded as of more than ordinary merit.
