Meeti: 3 at Xarakcahake.- On Saturday last a large and influential meeti. of miners and mineowners was couvenad by Mr. A. Hogg, Karangabake, for the purpose of placing the wants of the district', before the Government. Mr. E, M. Humphries occupied the chair. The following resolution* were pasted unanimously "I. That our member, Mr. Grace, tie requested to urge upon the Government the necessity of granting the sum qf £5000 for the purpose of constructing a road through the Waitawheta Gorge, such road being absolutely required the opening up of a Urge tract of auriferous country, for the transit of a vast quantity of payable quartz from mines now being worked, and to open up. communication with a valuable kauri forest. 2. To ask the Government for a grant for the purpose of extending the newlr-formod road from Mackaytown via Karaagahike to the Kaliu crossing, such extension being an absolute necessity for the growing wants of tbe distriot.and when carried out, would form part of the main Thatnet-Tauranga Koad, the latter being almost Impassable in the winter, 3. .To atk the Government for a grant of £1500 for the purpose «f construct a traffic bridge across the Ohinemuri river at Karangahake, such bridge being absolutely required for the growing wants of the district. 4. That a petition embodying the foregoing resolutions be forwarded through the County Council to Mr. Grace at Wellington. 5. That a reques I • made to the County Council to call a special meeting for the purpose of forwarding the above ratolurlon to Mr. Grace. 6. WoANATAupi ExTr.ijßKD.— manager reports: During* the past week I have extended No. 2 level on leader about 12 feet, but owing to the latter having broken up into small stringers and no gold to be seen lately; 1 have stopped this for the present, and am now cutting oat anil securing a chamber on the footwall of main lode, with the' view of commencing a winze. Most of the stringers at this point show gold freely, from which I obtained about. 31b of. picked stone yeitertlay. before deciding to sink here. I put a smt'll prospecting drive in oh these veins about IS feet, and find that th»y, from their strike, should junction with, the main lode downward, which i hope will have a good effect on the latter. 1 shall be ready to commence sinking about Thursday. The tributers (O'Toole and party) are crushing three loads at the Golden Crown battery.

Dtcr Level Ckoss —The manager reports— Sloping is still being continued on No. 2. reef. There is only another stope to take out on this reef before

it reaches No. 4 level, but it still appears to be going up in the footwall of the cross reef that has been w. rked out above the No. 4 level. Two men are also employed in breaking out quartz on the cross reef, close up to No 4 level. Sixty-five loads of- quartz hive been crushed from these slopes, for the return of 730z 16dwt of melted gold. Two men are still driving on No. 1 reef of the S;ixon, hut no gold has been seen Ie the quarts here during the week. I will have a trial lot of five tons put through the battery from here oezt we;k'.
