THE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST MR. FENTON.

A tew days ago we published a telegram from Wellington stating that in a memorandum appended to a new Bill the Premier had made what purported to be a statement of facts in reference to the dealings of the Native Lands Court with the Owbaoko and Kaimanawa blocks, and which contained serious implications against Chief Judge Fenton in particular. These statements worn made without any reference to Mr. Fenton; they are quite unfair, and are abviously circulated to further the political objects of the Government. Mr. Fenton, however, feels them strongly, and had prepared to answer them through the Press. He also sent a petition to Wellington, claiming a full investigation into the whole matter. He has reason to believe that this will be granted, and in the meantime he deems it expedient and due to Parliament to abstain from publication.
