AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION. A MKETINO of the delegates of the Auckland Rugby Union was held in the club-room, Imperial Hotel, last uight, to consider a reply from Sydney re the visit of tho Now South Wales team, and the protest from the Gordon Club re their match with PonHonby on Saturday. There were present Meesrs. Cotter, Osmond, White, Davy, Sims, Fisher, Lusk, Clayton, Jordan, Dixon, Ryan, Askew, Carter, Arneil, Sibbia and three proxies representing United, Auckland, Grafton, and Onehunga clubs. Mr. Cotter was voted to the chair. The secretary of the Southern Rugby UnioD, Sydney, wrote in reply to the offer of the Auckland Union of 75 per cent, of the gross takings of the proposed match with tho New South Wales team. It appeared rather hard to them that the local Union should expect 25 per cent, of the takings for arranging a match, and said that whoa the New Zealand team visited Sydney, all arrangements were made for them, giving them all takings less the grounc and advertising expenses. The letter suggested that the ground and other expenses should come out of the remaining 2w per cent., and that the balance should go to the Auckland Union; but, if the actual expenses exceeded one-fourth of the takings, the New South Wales team would see that they were paid before taking their share. The letter went on to s»y that the Union had set their hearts on the proposed invasion, and hoped Auckland would be benevolent. It was agreed to comply with the request by giving tho same term 3 as the New Zealand team had. During the consideration of the following Mr. Cotter vacated the chair in favour of Mr. Askew, having acted as umpire in the match referred to. A letter was received from the Gordon F.C., appealing against the decision of the match with Ponsonby last on the ground : '• That at the time of the alleged throw on by Poland to Reed, which resulted iu a try being obtained by Gordon, neither umpire made any attempt to blow his whistle, neither having been appealed to, aud it was uot until the ball had been taken out for the purpose of placing for goal that the Ponsonby captain thought fit to appeal." The rule of tho Rugby Union of England on the point was quoted as follows : "Appeals must be made immediately after the points occur which cause them, otherwise they cannot be entertained by the umpires or referee." The club asked that the Union should declare the match a draw, or, as the kick at goal was not permitted, that the match might be declared "no match." Considerable discussion took plan' , as to whether the letter could be received, as the rule quoted had not been adoptod by the Auckland Rugby Union, It was

moved " that tho letter be not received." An amendment to the contrary was lost on a show of bands being taken by 5 votes to 9, the others in the room abstaining from voting. A general feeling was expreseed that the rules should be revised and amended at once, and a committee was appointed to do so and report to a geneeal meeting to be held on Friday. An application from the Auckland Second Fifteen for permission to play all their matches on the Metropolitan Ground on account of many of the members belonging to the Fire Brigade, was deferred till the junior fifteens had been communicated with. It was resolved that a grant of £5 for the season be made to the Domain Board, Devonport, for the uee of their ground for the Union matches. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings. SATURDAY'S MATCHES. We have received lists of the following teams for Saturday's matches :— Auckland t.
