EMINENT PASSENGERS BY THE MARIPOSA.

Amongst the passengers by the Mariposa are several who merit special mention. Sir Anthony Muegrave, Governor of Queensland, who ia going to England on a trip. The Hon. Mr. Service, who for several years past has occupied the position of Premier of Victoria. is also passing through. This is the first time he has landed on New Zealand soil, and he regrets that he cannot make a stay, but u he ia with a party, and all their arrangements have been made, he must go on with the vessel. He will have tim* , , however, to-day to call on His Excellency the Governor, and also on Sir Frederick Whltaker, whose acquaintance he made at the International Conference. Mr. Service last night saw a portion of the town, and expreaaed his surprise at finding such subatantial buildings. Mr. Service will, in all probability, be ono of the exhibition comnveeionere for Victoria. The Rev. George Brown, who is well known in Auckland, is a passenger by the Mariposa. He ia one of the exhibition commissioners for New South Wales. Rev. W. Fitohett, president of the Ladies' College, flottam, is also on his way to England on a combined journey of bueinese and pleasure.
