Caledonian. —A nicely mineralised loader, which may be Cure No. 5, was intersected in the crosscut in " Balkius " to-day. Little is known about it. New Sham hock.—The stringy portion of the reef is more compact, and colours of gold are seen. [et telegraph.—press association.] Lyell, Friday. Alpine.—The returns for seven days eight hours' crushing of 234 tons give 5120zs amalgam from the plates. Hokitika, Friday. The Mont d'Or Company have washed up 500ozs and declared a one shilling dividend. Darwin.—The trial start with the new machinery took place yesterday, and came off satisfactorily, Mr. George Fraser having expressed himself satisfied with the work ot the contractors. The new machinery will now take up the work of the portable winding engine, which will be at once removed to the Trenton. Cambria.—The tunnel at No. 4 level to the rise to the deviation winze, and the connection of the latter winz* with the intermediate drive west to the Cross reef, are completed. The manager will be able now to carry on intermediate operations on the Darwin reef and cros»-r»ef simultaneously, and when the tunnel at No. 4 level is extended and intersects the Darwin reef a new source of supply of quartz will be at once crcated.
