MEETING RE RECEPTION OF HIS EMINENCE CARDINAL MO. RAN.
A most enthusiastic meeting on the above subject was held, in accordance with announcement made in all the Catholic churches of the city, at three p.m. yesterday (Sunday), in St. Patrick's Cathedral. Newton. Parnell, and Ponsonby were represented. The Very Rev. Father Walter McDonald presided, and after expressing his satisfaction at the large attendance, read a telegram from His Lordship Bishop Luck, expressing a desire that the reception accorded to His Eminence on his arrival in Auckland should eclipse all previous efforts, and be one worthy of his diocese. Mr. Clifton was appointed secretary to the meeting. It was resolved that, in order te give effect to Bis Lordship's wishes, all present resolve themselves into a committee, and the following be the Bub-committee, with power to add to their number, to make the necessary arrangements : — Hon. P. Dignan, J. T. Boylan, Dr. Wood, Dr. Lee, P. Lanigan, G. Leahy, W. J. Napier, James Larkins, Major Mahon, Major Dignan, P. Darby, Thos. Lonergan, P. Gleeson, J. J. Crofts, H. Mcllhone, — Simpson. After some discussion, it was resolved to adjourn the General Committee meeting till Tuesday evening next in the cathedral at half-past seven p.m., when all parishioners are invited to attend, the sub-committee to report thereto. The sub committee then held a meeting, and the following names were added to the committee The Hon. J. A. Tole, Messrs. M. Danaher, R. C. Greenwood, P. Comiskey, D. A. Tole, C. Canning, E. Mahoney, jun., Thomas Foley, John Boylan. A resolution was carried, "That the clergy of the several parishes out of Auckland be requested to select a number of their most energetic parishioners to act on the committee." Mr. W. F. Clifton was elected member and secretary for the Reception Committee. Mr. Simpson was appointed treasurer. Messrs. Lanigau, Boylan, R. C.Greenwood, and Leahy were appointed to arrange for flotilla of steamers. Major Dignan and Messrs. George Leahy and Thomas Foley were appointed to arrange for carriage*), Messrs. J. T. Boylan, Dr. Wood, and W. J. Napier to draw up address, and Messrs, Lonergan, Crofts, and Mcllhone to arrange for bands of music. The Chaplain (Rev. Father Tuckwell), of the H.A.C.B. Society, undertook to acquaint the society, so that they could arrange on Wednesday next, their meeting night, for their address, etc. Mr, George Leahy was appointed marshall. The sub-committee adjourned till Tuesday next, at seven o'clock, to meet in the Presbytery, at the cathedral.
