ATTEMPTED IMPOSITION ON A JUDGE.
Marcella Hibbeht, 2*2, dressmaker, of Fleet-road, and Richard James Wickos, 10, living with his parents in the same house,* were chargod at Hampstead Police Court with being concerned together in endeavouring to obtain charitable contributions by fraudulent pretences at Mr. Justice Day's, Greenbauk, London-road, Hampstead. The evidence showed that the boycalledat Sir John Day's residence and handed in a letter addressed to Lady Day, which ho had said was from the Kev. Canon Furceil, and that he was to wait for an answer. The letter was evidently in a female's handwriting, and there was some mistakes in the spelling ; but it purported to come from Canon Parcel!, the priest in charge of the Catholic chapel at Hampstead, who, it atatod, was sorry to trouble her ladyship, bat the poor-box had been quite forgotten that week, and he had ten sick poor, besides other destitute persons, applying to him for help. Instructions were given to a servant to detain the boy while Sir John went upstairs, but meanwhile the female prisoner called at the house and rescued the boy, and both made off. Mr. Samuel Day, the son of Sir John, went in pursuit, and overtook the prisoners. The Bench discharged the boy, but sentenced Hibbert to three months' hard labour.
