Mr. V, Sivag-o, the ci xwain uf the IlAur.ki crew, says that wiien about h»lf-way between the turning point and the winning post, his crew led the Waitemata by about a half-length, but only for a short time. At so other time w&s the Hauraki leaditig. When the Haurakis were leading, it w»s full; a mile from the winning post.
