Company's steamship Rotoma'aana came into harbour yesterday morning from Melbourne and Southern ports, with cargo and passengers. Captain Carey reports that the Rotomahana left Sandridge at 4 35 p.m. on the 6th, and cleared Port Phillip Heads at 6.50 p.m.; passed Swan Island at 1 m. on the Bth, and the Colanders at 5 a.m. on the 11th, reaching the Bluff at 10.40 a.m. ; left at 5.40 p.m. same day, and arrived in Port Chalmers at 6.40 a.m. on the 12th ; sailed again at 4.30 p.m. on tbt 13th ; called at Lyttelton on the 14th, Wellington on the 15th, Napier on the 16th, and Gisborne on the 17th, leaving latter anchorage at 9.15 a.m. ; rounded the Eist Cape at 3.20 p.m., and arrived in Auckland at 9 a.m. on the 18th. Experienced strong easterly gale with heavy head seas and dirty weather for three days after leaving Melbourne, followed by moderate variable winds and rainy weather to the Bluff; light variable winds and fine weather along the coast. The Rotomahana at 5 p.m. left again for the Bay of Islands well filled with excursionists. _ At the b<y the Rotomahana is to act as flagship at the regatta to-morrow. The barque Grecian Bend, at present loading at Mercury Bay for Sydney, cleared at the Customs here yesterday with the following cargo: 100,000 feet rough sawn and 100,000 dressed sawn timber. She is to sail to-morrow. During the Rotomahana's run from Sandridge to Port Philip Head she measured her steaming capabilities against these of the steamer Adelaide. The Rotomahana was lying off Sandridge waiting for tho ship's papers, when the Adelaide came down the Yarra, and after she had passed about three-quarters of a mile the Rotomahana got underweigh, and overhauled the Adelaide, breasting her at the Pile lighthouse, and forging ahead before reaching the west channel lightship. The Rotomahana maintained the lead, and cleared the Heads about half a mile in advance of the Adolaide. It is worthy of note that It was twelve months to the day since the two boats met going the same route, and that half a dozen passengers were on board the Rotomahana who were pessengers by her on the occasion of the first race.
