" E.F.G." writeß :—I am rather surprised that the daily Press should give so much attention to the lecturessea at present in Auckland. The Roman Catholic Church is no creation of yesterday. The greatest historians the world has produced have contemplated with wonder and admiration the innumerable attacks from all sides which she has calmly withstood. Some of the greatest living men to-day consider her the grandest and most compact organisation in the whole civilised world. She boasts among her faithful adherents the noblest minds and moat gifted geniuses of the present day. Witness Cardinal Newman, the greatest living master of the English language ; Cardinal Manning, one of the most subtle intellects in England, and innumerable others. Let us then not become crazy over these travelling ureases."
