CROWN LANDS BOARD.

The fortnightly meeting of the Crown Lands Board was hold yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs, D. A. Tole (Commissioner), W. P. Moat, R. J. Pearse, and Dr. Campbell. Land Sale.— Chairman announced the result of the land Bale held on the 13th instant. The total amount realised was £2000 18a sd. Rkskkves.—The Under-Secretary for Crown Lands forwarded the Gazette reserving lands for school site, recreation ground, and cemetery purposes. Tiniroto,—The Minister of Lands asked the Board to fix the value of improvements effected on section 37. These were fixed at £62. Tawhabua. —The Government directed that this block be offered for lease. Mekkrknj.— It was agreed to open an additional area of 2430 acres for homestead selection. Pcnakatere, —It was also agreed to open an area of 4900 acres in this block for homestead selection, Tadpiri.—The Assistant Surveyor-General forwarded a report on the application of Henry Byron for a license to mine for coal under Lake Kimihia.—lt was agreed to grant a license for twenty-one years ; rental determined by the Chairman and the Assistant Surveyor-General at any price not less than 6d, and not to exceed Is par ton royalty, Tikinui.—Tho Assistant Surveyor-General forwarded a petition from tifty-one persons, residing in the Tikinui and Tatarariki blocks, asking to be allowed to purchase in these blocks, and also recommended that a few allotments be cut up into a village settlement.—Approved.

Waste Lands.—The same officer forwarded a report on the character of the Hnkatere Block, Waiharakeke East, No. 5, and Waiharakeke West, No. 1. Pithoi.—The same officer forwarded a report on lots 13 and 14, Puhoi.—lt was agreed to allow Mr. Ranch to purchase the excess of area of 11 aores 22 perches at 10a per acre. Survey Reports,—The Assistant Sur-veyor-General forwarded reports on lands at Waiotahi and Makotu. Howicz —W. W. Hutchinson and 32 other settlers asked that lot 1, section 6, be withdrawn from sale, as it is used for a landing reserve.—lt was referred to the Assistant Surveyor-General.

Whareoiu, —The Chairman of the Road Board wrote in reference to the church and cemetery site.—lt was agreed to reserve a cemetery site, but tho law did not allow lands to be reserved for Church purposes.

OrnAWfliNGA.—Mr. Thome asked that the Ranger might be instructed to report on the homeßtead selections. — Referred to Ranger.

Te Poke.—lt was agreed to allow Mr. Tims to effect double improvements on section 14, block 5, such improvements to count as if done in section 25 and 14.

Ctaika. — The Chairman of the Road Board wrote complaining of the action of the Whangarei County Council in having leased a public lauding reserve.—lt was agreed to ask the Council to explain, Roapkkapeka.—T. H. Hurst applied for lease of land adjoining lot I.—lt was agreed to inform him that the land was reserved by order of the Government.

Mangakahia.—The Secretary of the Sash and Door Company offered £1 per acre for the right to cut three clumps of kauri trees in Government land adjoining the Karaka block.

Opuawhanga.—H. R. Petersen wrote in reference to his homestead selection being deficient in area — was agreed to inform him that he will be granted 12 acres in the opposite direction from the kauri clump to which he referred. Wairau.—The Chairman of the Road Board wrote asking that a timber reserve may be vestod in the Board. It was agreed to inform the Board that the only unappropriated area of 22 acres would be made a timber reserve. Mkrcer — George Elliot wrote in reference to his application for permission to occupy land at Mercor. Mr. Martin also wrote on the same subject, stating that be claimed authority to rent the same area.— It was agreed to ask Mr. Martin to produce his authority. Kaiaka.—Arthur flewgill asked to have a block of land opened for homestead selection. —Referred to the Assistant SurveyorGeneral. Ormosd.—lt was agreed to re-offer for deferred payment selection section 63, block S, Waimata. Whananaki.—lt was agreed to ask Mr. Galbraith to state exact position of land from which he desired to take kauri trees. Pokeno.—The application of the Road Board for two small pieces of Crown land was referred to the Assistant SurveyorGeneral. Hokianga.—Tho Education Board forwarded a copy of a resolution agreeing to surrender Lot 105 for cemetery purposes. Tangihua.— The application of the County Council to have section 11 of block 1 reserved for road-metal purposes could not be granted, the land having been sold, MairetaHl. —W. Shine asked to be allowed to temporarily occupy land at Mairetahi.—lt was agreed that land be cut up into sections and offered for sale. Cambridge.—John Ball asked to have lot 575, Cambridge West, offered for sale.— It was agreed to ask the Surveyor-General to recommend the best way of dealing with this land. Komokoriki.—lt was agreed to offer for sale part of lot 24, on the application of W. Canncll. Applications for Land.—A number of these were received and dealt with. Timber floating Applications.—Timberfloating licenses were granted as follows :— John Curtis, to use Tipatipa and other rivers, subject to a bond of £1000 ; Coulthard Bros., to una Hay's Creek, subject to a bond of £1000; Hokiaaga Sawmill Company and Tit Puke.—The Crown Lands Ranger forwarded a report on the deferred payment selections and the special settlement selections at Te Puke.—Crown grants were ordered to be granted to persons entitled. Maxwell Bros., each to use Parengarenga stream, subjected to a bond of £2000 in each case ; Auckland Timber Company, to use Oruaiti and other rivers.—lt was agreed that application should stand over for further enquiry.
