CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

Tuz usual fortnightly meeting of the City Schools Committee was held yesterday evening, at the Wellesley-street School. There were present : Messrs. W. Gorria (in the chair). E. G. Carr, W. Crowther, J. H. Hannan, and T. McMa3ters.—The report of Mr. Carr, head-master of Beresford-street School, with respect to the arrest of the boy Hewlett, in connection with the laroenies at that school, was received.Mr. M. Brearley tendered his resignation as a member of the committee, not having sufficient time to devote to the duties. Mr. J. Billinijton was elected in his stead.— A letter was read from Mrs. Bjrland, Ellerslie, asking that her daughter might be admitted to the City East School, to prepare for the pupil teachers' examination (sixth standard). After some discussion the icquest was agreed to.—A similar application was received from Mr. J. Blackman, Ponsonby, with respect to his son, who was over age. Referred to the Ponsonby School Committee. — Mr. W. McKee, teacher, Omaha, asked that his daughter might be allowed to go home by train each evening, arriving in town a little late next morning. The applicant pleaded extenuating circumstances. The request was acceded to.— Miss Taylor, of Beresford-street School, wrote with reference to the intimation that tho Board intended to deduct a week's salary for an absent week, asking that the Board of Education might be induced to reconsider its decision, Miss Taylor explained that while on a holiday at Raogiawhia the weather became so bad that she was unable to return, and was, therefore, absent from her duties for a week. The matter was referred to the Board of Education, with the committee's favourable consideration.—Miss Taylor ako wrote, asking for an increase of salary, as did Miss Lumsden also, of the Beresford-street School. The applications were accompanied with a recommendation from Mr. Harrison, head-master. Referred to the Board of Education, with committee's recommendation. —The Board notified the committee of the resignation of Professor Tucker, and that the election to fill the vacancy would take place on the 27th of September. The Board also informed the committee that they had authorised the appointment of Mr. Wilson as second assistantmaster at Beresford-street School, and that a month's leave of absence had been granted to Miss Baird.
