GOLD FOUND IN THE HARBOUR.
Mr. Thomas Barron, the well-known waterman, who is an old gold prospector, has recently been fossicking about in various parts of the Auckland harbour. He has found a deposit of black sand on the beach of the Auckland Brick and Tile Company's property, opposite Kauri Point, which contains a sensible proportion of gold. He has also found several veins of black sand on tho company's property, iu which gold can be found. He washed somo of tho sand, and brought the concentrated uand to the Bank of New Zealand, and found that it contained gold at tho rate of about lOOozs. Co the ton. For the etuff he took to the bank, ho cradled about four barrow-loads of eand aa it lies on the beach. He thinks tho prospects are such as would justify a full and canful investigation of the district, to eee if the several seams of black sand do not convergo and form one large seam or vein.
