AUCKLAND COURSING CLUB.
A meeting of the Auckland Coursing |Club was held last evening in Robson's Commercial Dining Rooms. There was a large attendance, and the President, Mr. A. E. Isaacs, occupied the chair. In accordance with a motion of which Mr. McEwen had given notice, it was agreed to refer the rules for revision to the committee, their report to be submithed to the next general meeting. The next business was the distribution of the prizes won at the late coursing meeting. The first pr ze was .the President gold cup and £52 19s 3d.—The President, in making the presentation, said he had little doubt but that the best dog won. They conld not all win, bat none of them would have their tails down, but be ready to compete on the next occasion. They had imported a gentleman as judge, who he believed had given great satisfaction, and he had now great pleasure in presenting the gold oup and cheque to Mr. W. F. Buckland.—Mr. Buokland said he was proud, indeed, of having won the cup, much, more so than of having won the cheque attached to it; not that he was satisfied that the best dog had won, for he thought he had a better. But Chloe was a very good bitch, and it would take them all their time to put her out. He was, however, more pleased that the little one had won it than that the big one should do so. , He might inform those present that as he would probably be absent at Wellington when the Puppy Stakes were run, he did not intend to enter her for those stakes. He was very much obliged for the manner in which they had acknowledged him' in the matter, and to the Chairman for, his kind expressions, and was only sorry that more could not have won it. (Cheers.) —The Chairman then presented the second prize, £26 10s, to Mr. J. McCabe, the owner of the runner-up, and in doing so said that a stronger supporter of coursing could not be found, and from the way in which he had supported the club he was sure hone present would grudge him the prizes he had secured. The other prizes were then distributed as follows:—Mr. Derven and R. McDonald, £15 17s 9d each ; J. McCabe, Jan., J. McCabe, sen., and Abernethy, £8 16s Sd 'each ;M. Hogan, J. Abbott, Watson, W. Percival, Chermside, and Saunders, £4 8s 4d each ; total, £154 4s 9d. Arrangements were then made regarding the Puppy Stakes to be run in July next, the entries to be made at a time to be fixed before the end of June. v , '
