Mr. K. Arthur'* Wxexly Report —The week has been marked by activity In all departments. Potatoes remain firm in price, and In good demand. Online hare been In lair request, although the market hfs been overstocked with Australian-grown, which are difficult to sen at low prices, being In bad order. Auckland-grown have brought id to lid per lb. Bacon in good demand, bat little Auckland cured to hand. Butter not in great demand ; first-class is wanted. Carrots and mangolds- have met with ready sale. Carrots bring 2s 3d to it 9d, mangolds Is ii to lsßd. Cheese, bat little good to hand; second-class difficult to quit. Fruit: Auckland-grown still continue to come to hand in fair quantity, and realise » much better price than the ■ Hobartgrows. Those to hand this week are not of first-class qoslity. Furniture hai been in good demand, satisfactory prices have been obtained at auction and private sale. Tuesday: Sale of freehold properties : a good number were present, but bidding was languid. A five-roomed house with an allotment about 22 x 97 feet sold for £275. Two allotments adjoining in Wnlf-etreet brought £3 per foot. Mr. Geo. Wartrarton'a residence and grounds in Bere»ford*sUeet was not sold, and is now open for Brivate sale. The jewellery oale: was fairly attended, but prices ruled low, and owing to the delay of the steamer a large qoantitr of goods advertlsnd could not be offered. Wednesday: Clearing-out sale of fittings, balance of stock, etc., at the premises, Queen-street, lately occupled by Messrs. M. Levy and Co.. the attendance was upon the whole good, and prices satisfactory. Thursday : Sale of farm of 200 acres, with dwellings and outbnildingii in Papakura Valley, by order of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, sold at £1010 to Mr. M. Berry. The. sale of household furniture, piano, &c., removed to mart for convenience of sale, was largely attended ; smart compel for many lots; good prices were obtained. The piano sold at £31; suites brought £0' 10s to £20; double iron bedstead. 85s to £1; portable boiler, £2 17s 6d ; looking-glasses, 5s to £2 18s each ; cheffoniers, £3 2s 6d to £5 10s; a pair of bronze ornaments, £4 15a; timepiece, marble, £4 17s 6d. 'iiday morning, ten o'clock : A sale of bananas at Messrs. Coupland'ii new stores, Customsstreet— few present; about 700 bunches sold at 6d to 8d per bunch; the market has been glutted with tkem. Friday, eleven o'clock, market day sale of poultry, produce, fruit, groceries, Ac., at mart. A large attendance; fair competition, und a large quantity sold, the s«.le continued to five o'clock. Poultry Wire entered in liirge numbers. A little improvement in the prices. Potatoes were not all cleared out owing to the reserve put on them, viz., four shillings per cwt. A good quantity have brought that price. Onions moved off fairly well, a portion of one lot reserved at l}d remain unsold. But little done with cheese. Bacon met with fair demand. Fruit moved off freely at fair prices.
