ORIENTAL FAIR.

The Oriental Fancy Fair was brought to a close on Saturday night. In the afternoon the attendance was good, but owing to a change in the hour of his performance Professor Carrollo was unable to give his gymnastic entertainment. The children's Maypole dance was very prettily executed at half past two and half past four under the the management of Miss Ross, The following are the names of the children who took part in the May-pole dance: — Maud Abbott, Evelyn Butcher, Alice Wylde Brown, Ethel Cave, Stewart Cave, Sydney Cave, Clifford Dawson, Cecil Dawson, Percy Dawson, .Willie Flood, Willie Frator, Irene Flood, Walter Frater, Arthur Fairburn, Koran Hull, Geoffrey Hull, Ethel Ireland, Lily ..Ireland, Francis Mitchelson, Madeline Thomas,v ' Harry Smith, Charlie Smith, Sydney Smith, Julia Gomlinson, Essie Waymouth, Kathleen Walker, Colen Wood, Georgina Walker, Essie Wilson, Harry Waymouth, Glanville Waymouth. In the evening the building was crowded in every part. At the Royal Egyptian Theatre the tableaux of All Nations, Mary Queen of Scots, Blue Beard, and Dresden China were admirably presented. Mr. Laing'a song, " Moriarity," was loudly encored.' Then followed the event of the evening, the Maypole dance by limelight. The orchestra was crowded, and it was only with difficuty that a ring could be cleared round the maypole. This .was done, however, and the dance commenced. The effect of the coloured light on the little dancers tripping under their ribbons was very pretty. The theatre was again filled for "Dearest Mamma," which was played to the satisfaction of the audience. The hall was enlivened by the appearance of quite a number of members of the cewly uniformed members of the Garrison Battery. A large number of raffles were got off. The following articles were won from Miss Home's stall, No, 8, and can be had on application at the hall this afternoon : Painted table (Wisteria),- Mrs. W. Hull; ditto (pink lilies), Miss Beale; oil painting, Mr. Buokland; football suit, Mr. Milner J; clouds, Mr. Casleson ; toilet set, Mr. C. P. Purchas. The name of Mrs. lanes, one of the largest contributors to ths Oriental Fair,' who sent goods to the value of over £60, was omitted in the list of shareholders of .No. 2 stall. The large success of this stall—over £143—has, we learn, . been in great part due to the excel* lent and useful, articles Mrs. Innes supplied. The total receipts of the evening were £532, making a total of £1314 received.. This will be increased by the auction sale, which takes place at the Choral Hall to-morrow (Tuesday) afternoon. We notice from our advertising columns that the scenery is to be disposed of by private tender.
