The Colonial Government «.s. Stella arrived from Wellington on Saturday last. The Stella is on her usual quarterly lighthouse inspection, and from here she goes to the Tut and Mokoblnau lighthouses, and thence on north and round to the Kaipara, Manukau, and Wellington. The Stella left Wellington on Monday last, and has had very heavy weather during the passage.

The ketch Venus, for Opotiki, cleared outwards at the Customs on Saturday last, and sailed yesterday with a cargo, consisting of 15,000 feet timber, 30,000 shingles, 2 tons coal, 20 package* groceries, and 26 packages ironmongery.

The schooner Marshall S., which had been lying in the stream for the last week, cleared outwards for Sydney at the Customhouse on Saturday last, with a cargo of raw sugar, shipped here by the New Zealand Refining Company from the s.s. Arawata, from Fiji. The Marshall S. sailed on Saturday night.

The work of getting the s.s. Pelham in seagoing order is progressing favourably, and it is expected that she will be ready in another fortnight. Captain Gregory recently came up from the South to take command of the Pelham, and since his arrival has been busily engaged in seeing that the work is being pushed ahead. The schooner Columbia, from East Coast ports, arrived in harbour on Saturday last, with a full cargo of settlers , produce.

The Tongan Government schooner Sandfly took her departure on Saturday last for Tonga. The nohooner Kenilworth for Mercury Bay, and Annie Hill for the Kaipara, both took their departures on Saturday evening last. The s.s. Clansman leave* for Tauranga, and the Olenelg for Mercury Bay, this evening.

The new schooner Glenoairn hauled off from the Railway Wharf on Saturday evening last. She is to sail to-day for Fiji. The barque Notero left for Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon last. She left hence in ballast.

The s.s. Io«a, from Wbangarei, Glenelgfrom Mercury Bay and the Barrier, and the Waitald, from Whangarei, arrived in harbour on Saturday night lait with passengers and cargo. The - Wellington, from Tauranga, arrrived early on Saturday morning, and ii to leave again this evening for Russell and Northern ports. The Union Go.'a E.M. 1.1. Arawata took her depart are for Fiji, via Bunell, at 5 o'clock yeiterday afternoon. At Buisell she will take in a complement of coal, and there await the arrival of the e.i. Wellington, leaving to-night, as that vessel will carry to the Arawata the mails for Fiji, received per K.M. 1.1. City of tydney. THE JANET NIOOLL. The eteamor Janet Niooll, chartered by Messrs. Donald aad Edenborough, came into harbour hurt evening from her maiden voyage to Tahiti and Rarotonga. She bring! but a imall oargo upon the pieient oncasion, comiiting of 6000 oaiee orangeu and 800 banohee bananai. The iteamer, although the has been somewhat longer upon her trip than w«i antioipated, hae nevertheless done very good work, and proved herself to be a boat very well rallied for the reqoirementa of the trade in whioh she is to be engaged and as a proof her f rait ha* reached here in excellent order, and is perhaps ona of the finest conditioned cargoen that has yet reached here. The maiden trip lua not been an altogether pleasant one, the steamer having had to contend against very heavy weather daring the greater part of the voyage. Captain Hutton reports of the round trip as follows:—Left Auckland on the sth ultimo. Experienced strong easterly winds and heavy head seas until arrival at Rarotonga on the 13th at 2 p.m. Discharged cargo and left attain on the 14th at 6 p.m. ; still blowing fresh from the eastward and heavy sea, which continued till our arrival at Tahiti on the 18th at noon. Left again for Karotongn. on return trip at 8 a.nr. on the 20th. Had moderate easterly weather. Reached Rarotonga on the 23rd at 7 a.m. Loaded cargo of fruit, and left for Auckland at 6 p.m. on the 24th, experiencing light south-east winds until Ist in*t., and from thence till arrival strong gale of southwest and westerly winds and heavy head seas. i'here not being a vacant berth at the QueennUeot Wharf, the Janet Niooll had to anchor off in the stream, but efforts are to be made this morning to hate a berth available for her.

IMPORTS.

Per i.e. Penguin, from the South : 633 kegs and 36 boxes butter, 182 saoks barley, 16 cages merchandise, and 9S cues and packages sundries.

The e.s. Herald arrired from Greymouth oa Saturday morning, with 460 tons coal. She left again for the same port at 1 o'olook yesterday morning.

The Northern Co.'s s.e. Gairlooh arrived from Waitara at 2 o'clock yesterday morning, with 40 head cattle, 311 sheep, 12 kegs butter, and 2 tons sundries.

The Union Co.'s t.i. Penguin, 749 tons, Captain Allman, arrived from the South at 11.30 yesterday morning. The purser (Mr. Beaumont) reports leaving Dunedin at 3.30 p.m. on tha 27th, arriving at Littleton at 11 a.m. on the 28th. Left at 9 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 4 p.m. on the 291;h. Sailed again at 2 p.m. on the 30th for Pioton and Nelson, arriving at the latter port at 8 st.m. on the Ist May. Left at 9 p.m., and arrived at Taranaki at 9.30 a.m. on the 2nd. Sailed for the Mannkau at 3.15 p.m.; crossqd the bsir at 10.15 a»m. on the 3rd, arriving as above. Experienced strong S.E. and 8. W. winds and heavy sea from Taranaki. She leaves again for tha South at 10 o'clock this morning.

The s.s. Hannah Idokau arrived from Raglan yesterday with 130 sheep and 90 pigs. The s.s. Oreti, frota Wanganui and New Plymouth, arrived in this Manukauat 6 a.m. yesterday with several passengers, and a cargo consisting of 20 bags scrap iron, 8 bales wool, and 10 tons sundrler. She is to leave again for New Plymoth at 3 o'olook to-day.
