NATIVE LAND CLAIMS AT ROTORUA.
[by. telegbaph.—own coebespondent.] Rotoeua, Saturday. Much useful work is being done by Judge Clarke here in deciding the numerous disputed native land claims within the Government township and native village adjoining. When these and other claims on the shores of Rotorua Lake, numbering some hundreds of pieces, from a few roods to several acres, are settled, there will be many beautiful sites open for selection. Such investments will doubtless be sought after whenever railway communication to the Lakes is opened, noirth and south. In themeantime the investigation and settlement of these native claims, encrusted with the complications of centuries, is a work of immense difficulty, calling for the exercise of the utmost skill, patience, and tact, all of which Judge Clarke evidently possesses to a marked degree. This is proved by the general satisfaction expressed by those concerned in the most intricate csises on which judgment has been passed.
