THAMES, Wednesday. Mr. Kenrick, the Warden, is said to have had a very satisfactory interview with the natives at Manaia. They give land for roads, and a fourth of the cost of construction to be deducted from revenue.

day, died this afternoon.
The Hon.- C. J. Pharazyn has resigned his seafc in the Legislative Council. It is understood nothing will be done towards filling the vacancy until the return of the Governor, and probably it will not be filled then. The stables belonging to Mr. Valentine, V. proprietor of the Marine Retreat, Petone, were destroyed by fire early this morning. One horse and four greyhounds were destroyed. There was no insurance. The loss is estimated at £250.
BLENHEIM, Wednesday. The body of W. M. Young was recovered yesterday afternoon in a 22-feet hole in Pelorue Ri7er. At the inquest the jury added a rider urging on Government the necessity of completing Pelorus Bridge ae early as possible, and the proper authorities were requested to open a track to the upper ford.

Sir Julias Vogel arrived from Wellington about noon, In accordance with his express wish there was no public reception.
DUNEDIN, Wednesday.
John Strachan, a shoemaker, an old resident of Warepa, in the Clutha County, died suddenly to-day whilst'on his way to the railway station at Balclutha. The cause was apoplexy. The caae against Green for embezzlement, hai been further remanded. <- It has tt&flspired that his defalcations-exceed £400.
