Ocean' Races. —There is no grander spectacle in the world than that of a great ship cleaving her trackless way across the tumbling waves. By the application of steam we have now been able to attain a rate of speed undreamt in old times ; and, just as we admire first the great racehorse for his speed, and then join in the maddening exciternentof a great race, so now the same spirit has been carried into ocean racing. Enormous vessels, carrying hundreds of passengers and untold wealth, go tearing across broad oceans, striving to outstrip each other by a few hours in a race of thousands of miles. The. spectacle is certainly grand \ but how about the safety of the people?' It's all very well for shipowners to pocket their profits; but isn't it a bit too much when the lives of hundreds depend upon the race ? What is required is not only speed, but speed with safety. It is quite' possible, for instance, in the case of a painful' disorder, to obtain immediate-re-lipf by .injections under the skin, or by taking opium or some, other preparation of. it. But at what a cost! Better a thousand times to follow the course of nature and use, a remedy like Hamburg Tea, which not only relieves the. pain, but goes straight to the cause of the'ailment, and effects a permanent oure by purifying the blood, liver, etc.
