THE PREMIER PREMIER ON FREETHOUGHT AND RELIGIOUS TOPICS.

[BY TILECHIAPH.—OWN COBKK3PONDENT.] Wellington, Monday. The Hon. Mr. Stout took the chair yesterday evening at Mr. Gerald Maiaey's lecture. The subject was " The Historical Jeaua and the Mythical Christ." Mr."Stout said he desired to explain his position. Hβ said he was President of the Freethought Aesociation in Dunedin, and had held that position for many years. That association did not consist of people who held one belief or one disbelief. They were people of various creeds, if he might so express it. It included Theists, Atheists, Pantheists, Deists, and Spiritualists. Their objeot was to allow a free platform to all who chose to discuss religious subjects, and on one occasion addresses were delivered by two able members of the Society of Friends. Mr. Stout eoncluded by saying :—"That the record of the life of Christ wae ene which all men should study, and if men had emulated His example it wonld be better for humanity today." (Applauae.)
