London, February 22. Mr. J. C. Beat, ex-Premier, of South Australia, speaking at Greenock, advocates the preferential treatment of colonial wines in the matter of import duties. He also regretted that the Earl of Rosebery had not replaced Lord Derby as Secretary of State for the colonies.
THE FEDERATION QUESTION. London, February 22. It is believed that the acceptance of the Sydney offer for the Soudan vrill promote federation of the colonies.
FRENCH DUTIES ON COKN. London, February 22. The French Chamber of Deputies have rejected the proposed increase of duties on corn.
THE CONGO. Berlin, February 22. The European Conference has agreed to the neutrality of the Oonsjo River. The Conference will close on Thursday next.
