At the annual meeting of the Gas Company to-night, a dividend of 15 per cent, was de« clared. DUNEDIN, Friday. The twelve-hours' match, Hancock v, Scott, for £50 a-side, comes off to-morrow, and a (treat contest is expected. ■-' ■ ■ The forty-eight hours' •■• go-as-you-please, , ' whioh was to come off next week, has fallen through; the intending contestants having had a disagreement with the promoter!. The North Dunedin Rifles send eight men to the Association meeting. INVERCARGILL, Friday. The temperance party succeeded in return* ing a majority in the South Borough. The weather is dry and sultry, and, a scarcity of water is beginning to be felt in town. The trial artesian well for testing the underground supply for the town is down 60 feet out of 80 feet contracted for. Great difficulty is experienced in keeping the water down. The harvest will be general in a few days, High yields are anticipated.
