THE GOLDFIELDS.

Daewe*.—The reef keeps its aize, and the indications of copper and other minerals betoken every appearance of a near approach to gold. [BY TELEGJ3JIPH.—OWN COBSKSJOKDEJTTS.] . Thames, Tuesday evening. • Shaskmaeket.—Cambria, 11s 3d, sellers 12s, buyers lls 3d ; Caledonian Low Level, ,10d ; Darwin, sellers 10s,. buyers 9« 6d ; Cross, 2s, sellers 2s 23, buyers 2s; Moanataiari Extended, sellers 2s 2d ; Imperial, 19a, buyers 19s ; Queen of Beauty, sellers 2s 3d, buyers 2s ; Ivanhoe, sellers 4s 10d, buyers 4s 6d. ...■;■.■ . Cambria.—l visited this mine to-day, bnt there is very little to add to my report of Saturday. In the winze the rubbly portion of the hangingwall ii composed of exceedingly kindly -quartz. The drive in the eastern end-looks as well as ever, except that no gold is showing. The. leading stops is just coming in to :where picked etone was obtained in the drive. The manager reports that gold is seen pretty freely in the slopes, especially 'towards the Darwin boundary. The crushing of specimens is now proceeding. ... • . . ; . . .Dabwin.—There is good country here, and I saw strong dabs' of gold in the stringers.. About ten feet of the reef is unbroken. Crushing was • commenced with five head at the Golden Crown battery today. ... ; :::. .'■_'.■« ■' .. . MoAnataiabi Extended.—Thomas Gilmor has been appointed manager. The northern drive is in 47 feet, haying been driven 13 feet last week. The southern drive is in 24 feet, driven in seven days. The country, seems to be getting whiter. Moanatalael—49oza. gold were obtained from 30 tons quartz in No. 9 reef, broken by four men. ,'.'...". . '."'..

Waiorongomat, Tuesday evening. The returns from the battery for the last week are as follows :—New;Find, 80 trucks crußhed for 1220z5. retorted gold. .Colonist, 40 tracks brushed; retorted retaro, including amalgam reoeiv'ed - from previous week, 49ozs. Diamond Gaily, 24' tracks, 55oze. amalgam. Premier, tailings lObzs. amalgam. The battery is now running 20 head for the New/Find, 10 for the Colonist, 5 for the Diamond 'Gaily, and 5 on trial parcels from yarioua olaims. The Vulcan tribute have just finished a crushing of 3 trucks, bnt.it is not quite cleaned up yet. '-■.'.-■■ [TBOU ODB OWN OOBBKSPONDENT.I Coromandel, Tuesday. . Very little ie doing in mining matters just now, although there are one or two claims looking decidedly better. Perhaps the best of these is the Castle Rock claim (Vizard's). The manager has been for some time driving on the wrong reef running parallel with the other, bnt on discovering hie mistake he put in a short crosa-cufc and cut the reef on which his winze was sunk, and obtained a nice show of gold. This has gone on improving every foot driven up to the present'time. He has not yet arrived at the winze. The air being very bad makes' progress slow, but the last breaking down showed very coarse gold in picked etone, and the general stuff coming to hand is very rich ; indeed, I think when he comes to crush most people will be surprised. From ita general appearance, and a very large flow of water, it appears likely to be the beat reef got in this district. Matawai.—Several days' carting of quartz has been done for this mine, but a hitch has again occnrred on the road, the contractors for repairs having blocked it. This is very unfortunate, as now the rain has set in there will be plenty of water for a abort time.

Matawai No. 2. —The manager is driving straight ahead in rather rough country, but favourable for gold. Mablebeu—The manager has had a crushing of a considerable quantity of stuff, but the result is not up to expectation. There does not appear to be enough of gold distributed through the stone. . .-..:' Union.Beach.—The show in this mine is very good, the leader lately got by the tributers being excellent. There is a dispute pending between the. tributera and the new. owners'of the ground, the latter trying to oust them from their holdings. The matter is likely to come before the Court. .

Katanga.—Very good stone came to hand in small quantities all last week, and the show in the mine is still very good. Last of the Mohicans.—Very active operations' are in progress at this mine erecting the battery, which is going up apace. The only work doing in the mine.is sinking two winzes, which are carrying good gold down.

Bachelors.—This is, a new claim, and takes in part of the old Pride ground. A «mall quantity (2001 be.) of picked stone crushed the other day gave the very handsome return of 63ozs. gold. There is every appearance that the lucky owner will do well. :

Haebodb View.—Parks' tribute is getting out some firat-claaa stone. ■He will have a nice crashing before Christmas. Some of the other parties in this mine are also doing well. .'.■■-..• : . . ■
