BORROWING VERSUS SELLING.
TO THE EDITOB. Sik,—l have lately returned from a visit to England, and am surprised at the sudden rise rn vaiue that property has taken in my short absence. But I occasionally drop into the sale rooms, and see a great deal of property offered that is either withdrawn or bought in by interested persons. What can be the canee of this anomaly ? After some inquiry, I am inolined to think that gome local institutions are advancing very freely on the wooden boxes in the city and suburbs ; indeed,- it is within my knowledge that the owner of a freehold security oan often borrowmore upon it than the same oan be sold for This i< not a healthy state of affaire, and for the sake of a certain class of small freeholders I would like to see a different state of things, as I fear that a fall in prices will deprive them of that marginal value that they have struggled to acquire.—T m> eto., Wooden Boxes.
